SonicWaves is worlds first sounding typeface.
It is based on drawn sound-waves as known from sound editing software or from sound visualizations. This experimental design was started by Edgar Walthert from a dublab invitation to participate in the audio-visual exhibition Into Infinity launched on 08.08.08. Dublab is one of the most absorbing internet radio stations of the present. The hosts of this station are for example stars like Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel, Postal Service, James Figurine), Daedelus or new Warp shooting star Flying Lotus. The programming of the station is highly eclectic and newcomers like Animal Collective, Architecture in Helsinki or The High Places were on rotation long before they entered the international independent press. As a constant listener of dublab and guest-dj on dublab as edj (pronounced like edgy), Edgar decided to donate his typeface "SonicWaves" into the 50$ proton-package of the half-annual fund-raiser or so called proton drive. The same package will contain a mix-cd from Dntel, stickers, postcards, exclusive downloads and the entry of the Mega Proton Price Pack drawing. This offer will be available till the 19th of November.
The dublab.beta of the typeface comes as PostScript flavored OpenType with lower case letters, figures and most common accents. Beside there will be a folder of sound files containing the letters in alphabetical order, ready to copy into the music software of your choice.

SonicWaves ist Welts erster klingender Font!
Sein Äusseres basiert auf den Klangwellen wie wir sie aus Musikprogrammen oder -visualisierungen kennen. Dieses experimentelle Design von Edgar Walthert wurde durch die Einladung von dublab, an der audiovisuellen Ausstellung Into Infinity zu partizipieren, ausgelöst. Dublab ist gegenwärtig eines der interessantesten Web-Radios und wird von Stars wie Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel, Postal Service, James Figurine), Daedelus oder dem neuen Warp Shooting-Star Flying Lotus gespiesen. Das eklektische Programm des Streams kennt kaum Grenzen und spielt sich souverän durch die verschiedenen Genres. Zur Zeit angesagte Bands wie Animal Collective, Architecture in Helsinke oder The High Places waren bei dublab schon auf Rotation lange bevor die internationale Musikpresse sie zu ihren Lieblingen auserkor.
Als konstanter Hörer und Gast-DJ als edj, hat sich Edgar entschieden seine sich noch im Beta-Stadium befindende Schrift "SonicWaves" in eines der Preispakete des halbjährlichen protondrive zu legen. In dem 50$ Proton-Pack befinden sich ausserdem noch ein Mix von Dntel, Stickers, Postkarten und exklusive Downloads. Zusätzlich nimmt man automatisch an der Verlosung des Mega Proton Price Pack teil. Dieses Angebot gilt lediglich bis zum 19. November.
Die dublab.beta von "SonicWaves" kommt als PostScript flavored OpenType mit Kleinbuchstaben, Zahlen und den gebräuchlichsten Akzenten. Bei dem OTF-File befindet sich ein Ordner mit Sound-Dateine, in welchen sich die Buchstaben in alphabetischer Reihenfolge befinden um mittels Copy-Paste in das Sound-Programm der Wahl importiert zu werden.
